Flora and Fauna
The valley in which the Coach House is situated is blessed with an abundance of flora and fauna.
Three species of wild deer can be spotted (red, fallow and roe) together with badgers; squirrels; foxes; stoats; rabbits and (occasionally) otters. Along with buzzards there are ravens, woodpeckers, nuthatches, wagtails, 5 species of tits, chaffinches, siskins, dippers, goosanders, mandarin ducks, herons, peregrine falcons, sparrowhawks, merlins, stonechats, kingfishers, numerous tawny owls and (in Spring and Summer) blackcaps, flycatchers, redstarts and chiffchaffs.
In May there is an explosion of bluebells in the woods and hillsides, followed by 1000s of foxgloves in June. There are many types of moss and ferns and if you look hard enough you may find wild orchids. Out on the moor the gorse and heather provide spectacular colour. Many of the trees around the Coach House - Oak, Beech, Cedar, Hemlock and Douglas fir - are over 200 years old and are impressively tall - over 130ft!
